    Tuesday- Read pg 1 of the newspaper you chose. Draw a picture and write a sentence about the main idea of the article in your notebook.

     Wednesday- Read pgs 2 and 3 of the newspaper. 

    Thursday- Write 5 interesting facts that you learned this week in your notebook.

    Monday-Read “Railroads Steam Texas into the Future”. In what ways did the railroad improve the lives of Texans?

    Tuesday- Read “Railroads Bring Boom to Texas” 

    Wednesday- Divide a sheet of paper in half in your notebook. Label one side “Texas Before Railroads.” Label the other side “Texas After Railroads.” Draw pictures comparing and contrasting Texas. Label the pictures with sentences to explain your ideas.

    Tuesday- Read “Ranching and a Changing Frontier”.  What were some of the problems of driving cattle from Texas to northern markets?

     Wednesday- Reread “Ranching and a Changing Frontier”.  In your opinion, what was the most dangerous job a cowboy or wrangler had to do? Use text-based evidence to support your opinion. 

    Thursday- Read “Joseph Glidden”.  What did he invent and why?

    This week you will be creating your very own Covid-19 Time Capsule Journal. We are living through a very important piece of our history. This is a great representation of you creating your very own primary source information piece of history. I cannot wait to see these! When you send in your work this week just send a picture of your favorite page.

    You will need to print out the journal to complete and color..  If you do not have access to a printer you can just use these pages as an example to draw and create your own.  Be creative, this will be something you can keep and show to your family members for years to come.  Remember this is a major historical event!

    Tuesday- Read “The Best Day of My Life”.  Why do you think it took two months for the slaves in Texas to learn that they were free? If you could give advice to Sally and her mother about when they should leave Mr. Smith, what would it be and why?

     Wednesday- Read “An End to War and Slavery” What is the Emancipation Proclamation and what does it mean?  What is the name of the celebration on June 19? Why do we celebrate?

    Thursday- Re read “An End to War and Slavery”  Divide a sheet of paper in half. Label one side “Before Emancipation Proclamation.” Label the other side “After Emancipation Proclamation.”  Draw pictures in each half comparing and contrasting life for African Americans in Texas. Label the picture to explain the ideas.
