The TAKS test coincides with the TEKS (core content) that is taught in the classrooms.  Third graders must pass the reading section to go on and fifth graders must pass the reading and math sections to go on.

Student Expectations:
  • Try your very best
  • Be motivated
  • Work to be successful

        

Teacher Expectations:

  • Prove your answer
  • Show your work & take your time
  • Read carefully and thoroughly
On test day students should:
  • Take Your Time
    Show ALL Work - even if easy
  • Highlight, Underline,  Circle
  • Read Questions Twice
  • Narrow Down Answers
    (Eliminate Wrong Answers)
  • Check Answer Document-Double Check

Parents Help Prepare at Home By:

  • Setting the expectation that your child will complete school and homework assignments
  • Communicating with your child's teacher about school, homework and grades
Helpful Hints for Reading:

*Read a variety of diverse literature  with your child
*Discuss the literature such as who, what, when,  where, why, how, predictions, etc.
*Discuss setting, characters, and events
*Be a role model for your child
*Make the connection between everyday life and reading
*Write letters, lists, emails, etc. with your child
*Explore words and word meanings
*Talk to your child to build listening and vocabulary skills

*Encourage a positive attitude about math
